The US health authorities confirmed on Thursday the first case of infection of coronavirus from person to person in the country. This is a man who contracted the disease through his wife, in his sixties who, unlike him, had traveled to Wuhan, the epicenter of the disease.
"The second person in Illinois who tested positive for the new coronavirus is a Chicago resident and is married to the first case for confirmed travel in Illinois," said Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The new case is the sixth confirmed in the United States. The other five were travelers who contracted the disease after returning from China.
The virus has already caused 170 deaths and about 8,000 infected.
